Mary-Kay Gamel Elected Vice-President for Outreach of the APA

Mary-Kay Gamel has been elected Vice-President for Outreach of the American Philological Association, the national classical studies association. The Outreach Division, one of  six  (the others are Education, Professional Matters, Program, Publications, and Research) "is responsible for promoting a wider public understanding and appreciation of Classics. Its goal is to strengthen the APA's ability to communicate with a broadly constituted audience." 

Professor Gamel has been quite active in this Division, including serving as member of the Outreach Committee, on the editorial board of the outreach publication Amphora, and member and chair of the Committee on Ancient and Modern Performance. In 2009 she received the association's Scholarly Outreach Award for her theatrical work.
